NYLA is launching the first annual Empire State Book Festival and Gala on April 9-10th at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. The two day event starts off with the Gala - NYS Writers Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, April 9th at 6 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Albany. The NYS Writers Hall of Fame will showcase the rich literary heritage of NYS by inducting two current authors - Mary Gordon and Robert Caro and 10 past authors into the Hall of Fame. Tickets are $75 and are tax-deductible. Proceeds will be used to support the Writers Hall of Fame/Book Festival.
The Empire State Book Festival starts at 10 am on Saturday, April 10th with Keynote Author - Gregory Maguire of Wicked fame. The Festival includes panel discussions, author talks, story-telling, etc. from 120 writers, poets, journalists, illustrators, etc. The event is free and open to the public. Join us for an evening of networking, fun and books! Randall Enos, Youth Services Coordinator at Ramapo Catskill Library System and Julie Baxter, Director and Youth Services Coordinator at Moffat Library will book talk the ALA 2009 Notable Children’s and Teen books (published in 2008). These are considered the cream of the crop of the titles that were published in 2008 for children and teens from birth through age 14.
