NOVELNY ONLINE TRAINING SESSIONS

The following free NOVELny online training sessions have been scheduled for
the summer.

Grolier, Databases for NOVELNY: June 25, 2009 2 pm (one hour)

Ebsco, Using Searchasaurus: June 29 at 2:00 pm (45 minutes)

Cengage-Gale, Health and Wellness Resource Center Database: July 14 at 10:00 am (one hour)

Cengage-Gale, Health and Wellness Resource Center Database: August 3 at 2:00 pm (one hour)

NOVELNY Databases for 2009/2010

New York State Librarian, Bernard A. Margolis announced the electronic products that will constitute the NOVELNY (New York Online Virtual Electronic Library) statewide collection for April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.

Beginning April 1, 2009 the following products only will be offered through NOVELNY:

  • EBSCO Primary Search (with the Searchasaurus/Kid’s Search interfaces) Primary Search includes Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia, the Encyclopedia of Animals and the American Heritage® Children’s Dictionary*, 3rd Edition from Houghton Mifflin
  • Gale Business and Company Resource Center, including Business ASAP
  • Gale Newspapers (InfoTrac Custom Newspapers, National Newspaper Index, and New York Custom Newspapers),
  • Gale Health and Wellness Resource Center, with Alternative Health
  • Grolier Encyclopedia Americana
  • Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia
  • New Book of Knowledge (Grolier)
  • ProQuest Platinum (contact the SLS office for a list of the titles included in ProQuest Platinum)
  • Twayne’s Authors Series

Not included after April 1, 2009:

  • All GVRL titles
  • Informé
  • InfoTrac Junior
  • MasterFile Select
  • TopicSearch
  • Health Reference Center Academic
  • Nursing and Allied Health Collection
  • General Science Collection
  • Science Reference Center

Provided by the New York State Library, NOVELNY is a pilot project for the Statewide Internet Library connecting New Yorkers to 21st century
information.  NOVELNY is supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

NOVELny Webinar Training

NOVELny

The New York State Library is offering the following online training sessions or “webinars” on the following databases:

  • June 9, 2008 - Nursing and Allied Health Collection (10:00 am) - This session will preview the new EBSCO host 2.0 features which will debut this summer.
  • June 20, 2008 - EBSCO Publishing content included in NOVELNY (1:30pm) - This one-hour session will offer librarians and library staff the opportunity to learn search strategies for the Nursing and Allied Health Collection, and will also preview Cengage-Gale’s Power Search Plus search interface, which allows cross-searching of Cengage-Gale databases.
