The Missing Chapters: Untold Stories of the African American and Native American Presence in the Mid-Hudson Valley

During this 5-hour workshop, teachers and librarians will explore the on-line exhibit titled, The Missing Chapter: Untold Stories of the African American Presence in the Mid-Hudson Valley and tour a new exhibit Before Hudson, 8,000 Years of Native American History and Culture.  A major component of each exhibit is a curriculum based on local primary sources found at Historic Huguenot Street, the Ulster County Clerk’s Office, and the Senate House Musuem.  The activities included in each curriculum were written with the NYS Social Studies test in mind.  Participants will have the opportunity to experience activities from both of the teaching packets.  Also included in this workshop will be a tour of several of the historic houses on Huguenot Street and a visit to an archive to view historic documents.  All participants will receive a free copy of  “When Cultures Collide” a curriculum on the Lenape People of the Hudson Valley.
