2010 National African-American Read-In

The Twenty-First National African-American Read-In will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2010 and Monday, February 22, 2010 (for schools.) This event is sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English and is endorsed by the International Reading Association. AASL Reading Institute: Reading and the Secondary SLMS

The regional School Library Systems are hosting the AASL Licensed Institute:  Reading and the Secondary SLMS.   This regional institute ties into two of the ideas in learning and teaching — that underlie the vision of library media programs presented in Information Power:  Building Partnerships for Learning.  Each is integral to every aspect of the library media program and every component of the school library media specialist’s role.

The instructor will guide your group through this one-day workshop that provides you with an opportunity to increase your understanding of current research on reading instruction, discuss how it informs school library programs, explore reading strategies, and explain what the library media specialist can do to strengthen their role as a literacy leader in their school.  Topics addressed in the institute include:

  • Legislation, trends, and studies
  • Engagement and Motivation
  • Reading instruction & strategies
  • Technology and reading
  • Advocacy
  • Professional literature

Date:  Tuesday, December 16, 2008 (Registration deadline - Wednesday, December 10, 2008)
